In Coquitlam, all administrators are required to complete a Professional Growth Plan. Through a process of self-reflection, assessment of competences, and discussion with peers, we look at the five domains of leadership standards to focus on one area for growth over the school year. These standards are developed through the district, the CPVPA and the BCPVPA and include moral stewardship, instructional leadership, organizational capacity, administrative management, and relationships. Each standard has some domains to focus the area for growth.
As this process is intended to give an opportunity for growth with district support, and allow for self-reflection and self-assessment, I thought I would try and expand my support group by posting about it on this site. My intent is to be transparent, allow feedback from my global PLN, and model the professional grow plan for educators, including those in my building.
I am currently in the self-assessment stage; looking at the areas that I feel I could grow in my professional competences. I am looking at the area of restitution and restorative justice within a school. As last year, I seemed to lead the district in suspensions (coming from a place where I do not like suspensions) I feel I need to develop new tools for alternatives to suspensions.
I still need to reflect and self-assess, I believe this is the area I will be working on this year. I will try to post everything on this journey. A little scary, but I think it will be a positive journey.
