This weekend, I began to finally go back to twitter so I could reconnect with the educators from around the world that I followed all last year. The last few weeks, I have been lurking along the periphery, like the students just coming back from the summer, checking to see who had changed, if they still liked me, if they still were the cool kids to hang out with,(with whom to hang out?).
Going through my followers and those I follow (two completely different sets of people), I kept coming across Why School, by Will Richardson, similar to the Shifting the Monkey conversations from last June. I quickly downloaded a copy and began to read.
What came from this was my realization, as our district’s professional development day is next week, that most, if not all of my professional learning is enhanced, prodded by, or completely engulfed by social media.
I like to learn through reading on my own, but I am becoming more and more comfortable in sharing to the world my thoughts on what I am learning or reading.
I think and hope that the next steps will be to start joining in the conversations and hopefully someone will respond.
I feel a little like the new students, wondering if the cool kids will talk to me. Luckily, I can talk to them first through twitter…..
Last night, there was a twitter chat (chitter?) on #whyschool. To see the conversation either check out the hashtag #whyschool or go to this summary.
